Textile Origin Story:

Emma is the intersection of my obsessions. I love vintage florals, I love yellow, I love skeletal patterns, and I love plaid. The floral comes from a pair of murals I painted with two artists for a Studio2eleven project. These were over-scaled trompe l'oeil stone urns with massive floral and grape arrangements. The original pieces had a full range of color but when I translated them for textiles I wanted a more 40s style feel. With the floral layer of the textile I ended up going to gray scale, making it considerably lighter and reducing the contrast before adding in the pale yellow. Additionally it has several overlays including the drawing 99 Steps and even a subtle plaid. You can see the snake vertebrae in the negative spaces around the flowers. It's a very detailed and provocative piece.
