Textile Origin Story:

In my thirties, a fellow artist gave me some quick instruction on skills appropriate for drawing with great detail. In a few minutes it very much clicked and I was set on a new path. "Spinal Cracker" was the first in a series of three pieces that worked in concert and were all featured in a show called "Draw Me." I was traveling between Steamboat Springs and Jackson Hole that winter while working on the show. I loved the portability of graphite on paper as a medium. The intermingling of skulls, vertebrae, snakes, and insects have been present in my art for decades placing my work squarely at the intersection of surrealism and nature. The three pieces from the series were created to conjure a nostalgia for historic etchings and the odd fantastical result of a type of interbreeding of species. All three have been adapted for digital textiles and have provided a good size library of designs.
