Textile Origin Story:

The Penelope textile is used here on the sleeves. It is a combination of several combined layers; the primary being the drawing called "Spinal Cracker." The combining of the transparent layers gives great depth to the textile that is hard to achieve in traditional textile making. "Spinal Cracker" is one of the pieces that came from the Draw Me show. The intermingling of skulls, vertebrae, snakes, and insects has been present in my art for decades placing my work squarely at the intersection of surrealism and nature. The three pieces from the series were created to conjure a nostalgia for historic etchings and the odd fantastical result of a type of interbreeding of species. Spinal Cracker overlays another art piece that creates depth along with the vibrant ombre layer of blue.
