Textile Origin Story:

Several years back I became involved in the business of Aquaponics. Our company built a greenhouse to grow food sustainably using fish waist as fertilizer. The system is on a loop that connects deep water plant beds with the fishtanks. It is almost miraculous how quickly the plants spring up! They are lush and delicious. I wanted to find a way to contribute to this beautiful facility we built and I ended up painting a mural. The piece had my characteristically surreal touch to it and a very rich color palette. I decided to paint a suspended tree with a root ball. A pair of Koi presented in a yin and yang composition and were the life force of the tree; a representation of what we were doing. We ended up using the image on some of the company swag. I've taken parts of both Koi to create this textile layering onto the dark nesting textile.
