JOOLS

Textile Origin Story:
This pattern has been the backbone of so much of what I have done in fashion and interior textiles. For me it is a go to neutral. Its beginning is very dear to me. The original painting is named for an enlisted man I met with his buddy both freshly on leave (Snatched; Renn's Nest). They were heading home from Iraq for the holidays. I met them in terminal B at Denver Airport en route to Boise, Idaho. It turned out that one was a musician and one was an artist. I had my computer and they ended up looking at a lot of my work and loved it. I wanted to honor their service and their excitement to be heading home, but not by buying them another round (believe me everyone near by was already on that!). I was working on a series for a show and told them I would name paintings for both of them. Both paintings featured nests as a symbol of home. I went on to use the nest in several more pieces over the next few years always symbolic of home and family. While the original is a straw color, I took this file to gray scale and also created an ombré overlay. This type of opaque ombré works so well on pocket leggings. It is very simple at the place where a lot of the pattern pieces are coming together leaving the detail for the less complicated lower legs. THEN I overlayed it in reverse to create the stripes! "Jools" is named for the model I used for some of the clothing pieces. She is the strawberry blond sitting on the ladder on the home page. She is a fellow artist and we have had many shows together.
