Textile Origin Story:

The peacock feather is clipped from a painting called "Flora." I painted it in 1996! I was renting a studio in Adams Morgan with a friend (Jackie of the Jackie textile). I was part of a group during my DC days called A.C.E (Artists Collective Endeavors). Oh I loved those days! We were showing our pieces in bars all over town. I was even in a show at the Nightclub 9:30 wherein I did live body painting! Clarence Greenwood (AKA Citizen Cope) was the headliner. He was our good buddy. "Flora" was one of a three piece series. The first time I showed them was at a bar called State of the Union on U St. When I went to leave at the end of the night all three of my paintings were gone. My housemate, having thought I had left them behind, took them. I was beside myself! There was no texting in 1996! I had no idea what had happened. He was out all night but when I woke up in the morning they were all sitting on a sideboard in our dining room; one was upside down. The three ended up in a few other shows including Frasier Gallery in Georgetown where I was eventually picked up as one of their artists. At one of the openings Kate Frasier told me she thought she had a buyer for another in the series called "First Kiss." I literally felt sick. The sale didn't happen and when I got them all back I decided NEVER to show them again. All three remain with me until this day.
