Textile Origin Story:
Piper is an offshoot of the pattern called Nesting. Hard to believe it came from the same original file. It was a painting I did of a nest. In this cut I left some of the negative space so I could do banding (like the Whit Wit textiles). I had a career decades ago as a non-digital textile designer; traditionally we painted our designs with gouache. You created plaid by masking and flicking paint from a tooth brush!! That made it semi-transparent. I am a life long plaid junkie and one day I was driving along turning the Rubik's cube inside my noggin and realized that I could make plaid digitally through applying transparent layers and turning them one click clockwise. I went home and did it! Piper is an intersection of all of my obsessions. I love this highly saturated green/gold color; it's my Colorado Aspens in the fall. I love plaid. And above all I loved my very petite boxer Piper. I named it after her as she brought nothing but cheer everywhere she went!
