ROBIN'S FLOWER
PRODUCT DETAILS
Textile Origin Story:
A few years after I did the Draw Me show I was invited to participate in an all women's group show in LA. I was still really enamored with the idea of continuing my graphite works on paper. I had done a piece called "The Artist at Middle Life" that had been included in a juried show here in Colorado and decided to create the companion piece, "Robin's Flower." They were shown together. The flower is top heavy, like a peony, and nestles a badger skull in its center. Not too long before I made it, my girlfriend Jools presented me with a box of bones that included the skull. Someone I had never met, but was familiar with my work, had given it to her to pass along. The drawing is a funereal flower for my friend Robin Rule who we lost at that time. I wanted to create something, both dark and lovely, worthy of the place she will always hold for me. I recently have started removing the backgrounds on some of my drawings so as to be able to layer them on a contrasting background. In this textile, Robin's flower is layered on top of one of the nesting prints.
